A Closer Look: Sea Buckthorn Oil Serum

Sea Buckthorn oils are very potent, and many products need only utilize a tiny percent to render the formula highly effective. One of the keys to ensuring that the user will receive all of the benefits of these precious oils is to consider carefully the ingredients to be combined with them.

Mont Echo’s Sea Buckthorn Oil Serum contains both the Fruit and Seed oils of 100% organically-grown Canadian-grown Sea Buckthorn. To bring out the benefits of these oils without staining the skin orange, they have been paired with one of Sea Buckthorn’s most powerful friends in the plant kingdom – Organic Rosehip. Rosehip is a wonderful companion for Sea Buckthorn, and the oils work synergistically to provide skin with everything it needs to radiate health.

A Perfect Marriage: Rosehip and Sea Buckthorn

Rosehip oil is extracted from the seeds of the fruit (called “hips”) of wild rose bushes. Like Sea Buckthorn oils, Rosehip oil is unusually high in fatty acids and vitamins, particularly Vitamins A and C. Both Sea Buckthorn and Rosehip oils have been praised for their ability to nourish and moisturize the skin, reduce scar tissues, help to prevent and reduce stretch marks, and attenuate wrinkles & age spots (photo-aging). They have also been used in traditional medicine for centuries in the treatment of burns and dermatitis. Rosehip oil is light, clear, non-staining and absorbed very readily into the skin with no greasy or oily residue. It is a perfect vehicle to deliver the powerful Sea Buckthorn oils into the skin.

Sea Buckthorn oils boost these shared qualities with the addition of 190 bioactive substances such as flavonoids, plant sterols, potent anti-inflammatories and the rare Fatty Acid Omega 7, prized for its ability to assist in skin repair and stimulate cellular renewal. Research also indicates that Omega 7 supports and soothes the skin and mucous membranes, including those found in the gastrointestinal and urogenital tracks.

Mont Echo’s soothing blend of Rosehip and Sea Buckthorn oils is full of omega fatty acids, anti-inflammatories, antioxidants and vitamin C. One of our natural health consultants feels so strongly about this combination of oils that she tells her clients the Serum will “Revolutionize your skin care regime!”

Using the Oils:

Sea Buckthorn and Rosehip oils may be used on crow’s feet, laugh lines, discoloration, scars and stretch marks. Many of our clients also use it for dermatitis such as eczema. One drop will go a long way! The oils are potent and should be used sparingly (one drop per area, once per day) until your skin is accustomed to them.

Mont Echo’s Oil Serum is particularly effective when used in combination with Mont Echo Sea Buckthorn Toning Mist, our unique floral water. Using the two products together delivers the benefits of both the hydrophobic (oil-based) and hydrophilic (water-based) nutrients present in the plant, allowing your skin to reap the benefits of the entire Sea Buckthorn plant.

Below we have listed suggested uses for a variety of skin types.

Together, Sea Buckthorn and Rosehip oils are a ideal for the care of mature and/or sensitive, dry skin. Very dry, mature skin may benefit from mixing the Serum with Organic Olive Oil for extra hydration. Olive oil is another natural friend of Sea Buckthorn.

For combination skin, we recommend pairing the oil Serum with a weekly Mask & Scrub to exfoliate skin. Look for our new masks and scrubs!

A word of caution for those prone to active acne breakouts. It is very important to remove dead skin cells very often when using oils with the ability to accelerate cell renewal. Otherwise the dead skin cells may clog pores and cause breakouts.
